Question - by Oscar Q.

You recently recorded with Glen Snelwar. How does recording with Glenn (I have only heard God Interface from that album) differ from the approach you use, lets say with Cans "Beyond the Gate" or Warlord or even Fates Warning? How do you come up with the parts, as Glen's release seems more technical and with a lot of intricate parts than the more straightforward approach of Cans or Warlord?

Answer - by Mark Zonder

I like all different kinds of music and when I am coming up with parts or working with a certain band or artist, I try to make my parts fit and not distract from the music. Then I just try various different ideas and see how creative I can get my parts without getting in the way of the general theme of the music. If you listen to Kevin Moore's Chroma Key or Jim Matheos'
album "Away with Words" you can see what I am talking about. I feel one of my strengths is that I have the ability to apply my parts to various styles of music. If I was working with Warlord, I would not try to add an Afro-Cuban part. I find it quite repetitive when you hear drummers that can only play one style and then try to apply it to various other styles. Sort of a round peg in a square hole.
